Solar Installers in Ballito You Can Trust

EagleEyeSolutions designs and installs solar panels, hybrid inverters and lithium batteries for homes and businesses across Ballito, Salt Rock, Shaka’s Rock, Zimbali, Umhlali and the wider north coast, backed by more than 30 years of technical experience and local know-how.

The same team also installs CCTV, intercoms, alarms and fire detection, which suits estates and holiday homes where security matters as much as backup power. If you are planning both, they can be designed and wired together, so you have just one installer to call.

Ballito is a mix of family homes, estates, townhouses and holiday properties, and each uses power differently. A full-time family home needs reliable evening backup, while a holiday home may only need to keep the fridge, alarm and cameras running while it's empty.

Grid-tied, hybrid and off-grid systems compared

A solar system is three parts working together: panels that generate power, an inverter that converts it for your home, and batteries that store it for the evening and outages. We size and quote all three for the way your property is used, whether you live there full time or visit for weekends.
SystemTypical useLoad shedding protectionRelative cost
Grid-tiedCutting daytime bills where outages are not a concernNone. The inverter shuts down when the grid fails, by designLowest
HybridMost north coast homes, estates and holiday homesYes. Battery and panels keep chosen circuits, or the whole house, runningMid

Built for Coastal Conditions

Ballito sits right on the sea, so salt spray reaches most rooftops. On coastal installs we use anodised aluminium rails, stainless steel fasteners and panels tested for salt mist, and we keep inverters and batteries under cover, away from the damp sea air.

Wind is the other factor. Exposed ridge and beachfront homes catch strong gusts, so mounting needs to be fixed into the roof structure and rated for the wind load. Summer storms bring lightning too, which is why surge protection on every system is standard.

What size solar system do I need?

Start with the kWh figure on your last few electricity bills, not the rand amount. Then decide what must keep running during an outage and for how long. For a holiday home, that may only be security and the fridge; for a full-time family, it is usually most of the house, including the pool pump and air conditioning.

Salt Rock

Holiday home

About 350 kWh a month
5 kWpackage

Empty for weeks at a time, but the fridge, alarm, gate and cameras must stay on. The 5 kW package, with 4.7 kW of panels and a 5.3 kWh battery, keeps security running through outages.

Shaka's Rock

Three-bedroom family home

About 700 kWh a month
10 kWpackage

Wants lights, fridges, Wi-Fi and a home office running in outages. The 10 kW package, with 5.9 kW of panels and 10.6 kWh of storage, covers daytime use and the evening essentials.

Zimbali

Four-bedroom estate home

Around 1,200 kWh a month
16 kWpackage

Pool pump, air conditioning and a full-time family, wanting most of the house backed up. The 16 kW package, with 9.4 kW of panels and 20 kWh of storage, is the right match.

Inverters, Lithium Batteries and Load Shedding Backup

For most homes on the north coast, a hybrid inverter with lithium battery storage is the right choice. We install Deye hybrid inverters with Deye, Dyness and Hina batteries.

Hybrid inverter

Sits between your panels, battery and the grid. It uses solar first, the battery second and the grid only to top up, then switches your backed-up circuits over to battery in an outage.

Best for

Lower bills plus backup when the power goes.

Off-grid inverter

Has no grid supply to fall back on, so the panels and battery must carry everything, sometimes with a generator as a last resort. It needs more panels and storage, so it costs the most.

Best for

Farms and remote sites far from the grid.

Lithium battery storage

Stores solar for the evening and for outages. Lithium lets you use around 90% of its capacity, lasts thousands of charge cycles and usually comes with a 10-year manufacturer warranty.

Best for

Lights, fridge and Wi-Fi through outages.

Solar Supply and Maintenance

Buy solar equipment

Already have an installer, or adding storage to an existing system? Electricians and homeowners can buy lithium batteries and solar panels directly from our online store.

  • Deye 5.3 kWh lithium batteries
  • Dyness 5.12 kWh lithium batteries
  • Hina PowerGem 5.12 kWh batteries
  • 590 W Tier 1 monocrystalline panels

Solar maintenance

Sea air leaves a salt film on panels that cuts output and, left too long, damages frames and fittings. Near the beach we recommend a clean every six months, plus a yearly check.

  • Soft-water panel clean, no chemicals
  • Rails and fasteners checked for rust
  • DC cabling and surge protection tested
  • Inverter logs and battery health review

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need estate approval for solar in Ballito?

In most estates, yes. Many estates have architectural guidelines on where panels can go and how visible they are from the street, so check your HOA rules and get approval before installing. Your installer should supply the layout and product details your estate asks for.

Who do I register my solar system with?

Ballito falls under KwaDukuza Municipality, so most grid-connected homes register with KwaDukuza as a small-scale embedded generation (SSEG) system. If Eskom supplies you directly, you register with Eskom. Off-grid systems still need a Certificate of Compliance.

How does sea air affect solar panels?

Salt settles on the glass and cuts output, and over time it corrodes standard fasteners, rails and outdoor enclosures. Choosing salt-mist tested panels, anodised rails and stainless steel fixings, then cleaning every six months, keeps a coastal system performing for its full lifespan.

Is solar worth it for a holiday home?

Often, yes, especially for security. A smaller hybrid system keeps the alarm, cameras, gate motor and fridge running through outages while the house is empty, and the panels keep cutting the bill when it is let out or used for weekends.

How much does a solar installation cost?

Our packages start at R85,800 excl. VAT for 5 kW, with 10 kW at R114,800 and 16 kW at R179,800, including panels, a Deye hybrid inverter, lithium batteries, labour and a CoC. These are guide prices, confirmed after a free site inspection.

Do I still pay for electricity if I have solar?

Yes, in most cases. While you stay connected to the grid you still pay your account's fixed charges, and you will draw some grid power at night and on cloudy days. Your bill drops sharply but rarely disappears unless you go fully off-grid.
